Vinyl siding
up close.
Vinyl siding first became commercially available in the early 1960s. The popularity of vinyl siding experienced growth in the 1970s and 1980s. By 1992 over 2.2 billion square feet of vinyl siding had been used to cover buildings. Homeowner's choose vinyl siding to clad their homes because it is an affordable product that provides durability and requires minimal maintenance when compared to alternative siding products. According to Vinyl Renu, a manufacturer of Vinyl Resotration products, vinyl siding is subject to oxidization and fading from the effects of acid rain and UV rays. Fortunately homeowners can restore faded siding to its original luster using specialized cleaners and polymer coatings.
Instructions
1. Dilute the cleaner in a bucket of water at a ratio of 10 parts water to one part cleaner. Dip a large clean sponge into the cleaner and apply it to a 10-foot square area of siding.
2. Scrub the area the cleaner was applied to with a soft bristle brush. Using a brush with nylon or other synthetic fibers will prevent the siding from becoming scratched or gouged.
3. Rinse the treated area with a garden hose. Residual cleaner on the surface of the siding can affect the final appearance of the treatment, so a thorough rinsing is essential.
4. Repeat the cleaner application and rinsing of the siding until the entire area to be treated has been cleaned and rinsed. Allow the siding to dry completely.
5. Apply the surface shield to the siding with the paint brush, using broad horizontal sweeping motions for complete and even coverage.
6. Allow the surface shield to dry completely and recoat with another layer of shield.
