Cottage Style Fresh paint Colors

Warm colors on the walls make cottage rooms inviting.

Cottage decor focuses on relaxed and warm aspects of the home using color to help bring about various moods. When selecting colors for cottage themes, stick with colors that will work with the rest of the colors in your decor. Warm colors on walls enhance any mood and decor, leaving other color options for smaller pieces of furniture and accessories.

Neutral

Neutral colors create a comfortable and cozy mood in any room. In cottage style decor, neutral colors enhance other colors in the palette. Beige, cream, off-white, pale yellow and tan are neutral colors that work well with almost any color palette you choose for your cottage. Look at sand and the many colors you find on the beach, and use the colors for walls. From yellow to brown, many neutral colors give you plenty of flexibility when decorating. Use different shades of one color throughout your house for a unified look and feel.

Muted Colors

Paint colors for this style should be muted to keep the ambiance of the cottage look and feel. Dusty rose and blue look good on walls as long as they are not overly dramatic or bold. Another color you might choose is green, which will bring energy to your rooms. Look at colors bleached by the sun to get an idea of muted colors. Combine colors for an individual look. Blue and white or blue and yellow are two color combinations that work well together in cottages. Colors on furniture can range from light to dark, but most will often sport a worn appearance to enhance the cottage look.

White

While white may seem stark, it is an excellent color choice in the cottage decor color palette in the form of molding, trim and cabinetry. Even on walls, white is light and provides an airy sense that works well with the inviting and cozy feel of cottage decor. Look for various shades of white. Like most other colors, white comes in many shades, and all work better with some colors than another shade might. Dusty shades of white look more unified while blue-toned shades of white are cooler. Paint odd pieces of furniture for a bright splash of crisp color.
