Create A Splatter Tablecloth

Splatter paint your tablecloths and you'll never again have to worry about spills or fingerprints. A splatter tablecloth can hide a multitude of sins. Instead of throwing away your old, stained tablecloths, splatter them and use them for casual, whimsical d cor. This is an excellent project to keep worry-free tablecloths on hand if you have kids visiting or if you love to do crafts.

Instructions

1. Find a large, open area for your splatter paint session, as the technique can be messy. Outdoors where you don't have to worry about paint splatter is ideal. A garage or workshop will also suffice. If working in your house, use drop cloths or cheap plastic cloths to cover your floors, furnishings and walls.

2. Lay your tablecloth out flat on the floor. Put on old clothes and rubber or latex gloves to protect your hands.

3. Choose the colors that you wish to splatter on your cloth. Mix each color, one part paint to one part water, in a cup or bowl.

4. Dip a paint brush into the cup or bowl. Hold it over your cloth and snap your wrist to make the paint splash off the brush. Repeat the motion three or four times, then dip the brush in paint again and repeat if desired.

5. Create a finer spray by grabbing the base of the bristles tightly with one hand. Hold the brush above the sheet and run your finger over the tips of the bristles.

6. Walk around the tablecloth and approach it from different directions to vary the angles of the splatter marks. Splash and splatter the paint on the cloth randomly, but give the cloth fairly even coverage all around.

7. Allow the cloth to dry thoroughly before moving it so you don't smear the paint.
