What Offers Will I Use For Cartoon Wall Wall art

Choose the safe and appropriate kind of paint for a child's wall mural.

There are a few factors to consider if you want to create a mural of your child's favorite cartoon character. Since the mural will most likely be in the child's room, it will need to be easy to clean, waterproof and non-toxic. The preparation of the wall is also an important factor and may involve a choice of which kind of paint to use as a background.

Background Paint

You will need a good clean background for your cartoon wall mural, and that might mean painting the whole wall with a new coat of paint. The type of interior paint you choose depends on the kind of paint you will be using for the mural. If you are using latex craft paint and you want to lay down a fresh coat of paint on the walls, do not use an oil-based interior paint -- the latex paint will peel off. Instead, use acryli-c or latex-based interior paint.

Latex Craft Paint

Latex Craft Paint comes in larger containers than acrylic paints, but they are just as ideal when creating a wall mural. It is non-toxic and water soluble, so you won't need a solvent to wash your brushes. To mix the paints, use a palette knife on a pan instead of the brushes. If you don't want to lay a fresh coat of paint on the entire wall behind the mural and the interior paint is oil-based, prime the area with a coat of acrylic paint.

Acrylic Paint

Acrylic paints are usually sold in different amounts, such as small tubes or jars and come in many different colors. Acrylics are widely used for wall murals and are popular because they are inexpensive and easy to find wherever craft or art supplies are sold. Acrylics are non-toxic and water soluble, but have plastic polymers in them. Cadmium colors of acrylic are toxic, so you should stay away from them when painting in a children's room.

Oil Paints

If you want plenty of blending freedom directly on the wall, you can use non-toxic oil paints for your cartoon mural. There are oil paints on the market that contain walnut oil, which is safe to use. You can use walnut oil to clean the brushes instead of using turpentine or other harmful solvents. You can also use dish washing liquid to clean your brushes off when you are done. Oil paints give vivid colors and dry slowly, so you should only use them if you have plenty of time to wait.
