Remove Stucco Finish Fresh paint

Stucco paint can be removed with a few tools.

Stucco paint may need to be removed for a number of reasons. Common problems include peeling, staining, water damage and discoloration. Most stucco can be removed using a few simple tools and a little time and effort. Whether removing the paint from the ceiling or walls, the process is basically the same. However, the process for exterior removal is a bit different. After removal, you will be able to sand and repaint with ease.

Instructions

Interior Stucco Paint Removal

1. Remove all furniture from the room where the paint removal will take place. Also remove all light fixtures and outlet covers. Lay the sheet plastic out on the floor to protect the floors.

2. Put on safety goggles, face mask and gloves. They will need to be worn throughout the removal process.

3. Select a starting point and using the spray bottle, dampen the section with water.

4. Hold the paint scraper at less than a 30 degree angle and push it in a forward motion. The stucco paint will begin to peel off. Repeat this process section by section until all paint is removed.

Exterior Stucco Paint Removal

5. Dress in the appropriate safety wear, including the safety goggles and gloves. After filling a pressure washer with clean, chemical-free water, hold the pressure washer tip 6 to 8 inches from the surface. Using a horizontal or downward motion, spray off the existing paint.

6. Brush any remaining paint away with the metal brush. Do so in sections until the entire surface has been brushed.

7. Smooth the entire surface using the belt sander. Sand in sections until the entire area is smooth and even. The surface is now ready to be repainted if desired.
