Ranch Style Exterior Fresh paint Ideas

The ranch often has an earth-tone exterior.

Ranch homes are known for their clean lines, low profiles and casual feel. This architectural style was especially popular from the 1940s through the 1970s, as Americans began to enjoy their newfound prosperity and flocked to the suburbs. The ranch's exterior paint typified the optimism that pervaded the nation with earthy tones and fun pops of bright color.

Optimistic Colors

Sherwin Willliams has a line of ''Suburban Modern'' colors befitting a ranch-style home. They include bright, sunny colors that reflect the optimism Americans were feeling post-World War II. Examples are Stratford Blue (SW 2864), Harvest Gold (SW 2858), Peace Yellow (SW2857) and Burma Jade (SW 2862). "Suburban Modern'' is part of the Exterior Color Preservation Palette, which recommends hues for various architectural styles and periods.

Earthy Palette

Benjamin Moore recommends an earthy palette for a ranch home. One natural color scheme calls for Interlude (AF-135), which is a stone-tan color, on the body of the house. Doors and shutters are painted Townsend Harbor Brown (HC-64), and the trim is painted White Dove (OC-17) for a crisp pop.

Bright Naturals

Behr recommends several color options appropriate for a ranch-style home. Most of them feature creamy, sand, taupe and tan tones for the body of the house, with accents and trim in brighter naturals. An example is Wild Honey (760C-3) on the body, Chianti (S-H-150) on the door and Mirage White (400E-1) on the trim. Another option is Quail Ridge (ECC-18-1) on the body, Blooming Wisteria (ECC-18-3) on the door and Pebbled Shore (ECC-18-2) on the trim.
