Remove Acrylic Enamel From Porcelain Tile

Protect your floor with plastic to avoid enamel paint drips.

You've just painted a piece of furniture or a car with acrylic enamel paint, and you're marveling at your work when you notice paint all over the floor tiles. If this sounds familiar, act fast to clean up that acrylic enamel off your ceramic floor before it dries. You can remove acrylic enamel paint that's already dried. Acrylic enamel paint is water soluble, meaning that enough water, pressure and persistence will take the paint off your ceramic floor.

Instructions

Wet Enamel Paint

1. Blot up as much wet acrylic enamel as you can with a dry rag. You can remove most wet paint from your tile in this fashion.

2. Wet another rag, and scrub the affected area. The remainder of the wet paint will come right up. Rinse the rag, and repeat. All of the acrylic enamel paint should loosen from your ceramic tile.

3. Wipe up the colored water with a dry rag. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until there are no more traces of paint on your ceramic tile.

Dry Enamel Paint

4. Wet a rag, and scrub the affected area. If the staining is small and not very old, you should see the acrylic enamel start to loosen.

5. Rinse your rag with warm water, and repeat Step 1. A few applications of water and some good scrubbing may be enough to remove the paint from your ceramic tile.

6. Fill a bowl with dish soap and hot water. Using a small scrub brush, scrub the paint left on your tile. Allow the soap and water to sit on the affected area for a couple of minutes.

7. Wipe away the soap with a wet rag, and examine the area for stains. Repeat step 3 if necessary. Dry the area when you have finished. If you still see stains, proceed to Step 5. You can remove most enamel paint stains with a soap scrub and repeated rinsing.

8. Dry the area, and apply a thin layer of rubbing alcohol with a rag. Work the rubbing alcohol into the affected area, rubbing the alcohol in with a rag. Repeat the alcohol soak, and wash the area with soap and water. All paint should be removed by this time.
