Create Fresh paint Schemes For Automobiles

Create a color scheme for a vehicle using a drawing and colored pencils.

Creating a paint scheme for a vehicle requires an understanding of color. The primary colors (red, blue and yellow) along with the secondary colors (purple, green and orange) are used to determine the paint scheme. Colors directly across from one another on the color wheel are complementary colors. Analogous colors sit next to one another. Monochromatic colors are tints (lighter) and shades (darker) of a particular color hue. Warm colors are those in the yellow, orange and red group. Cool colors are those in the blue, green and purple group.

Instructions

1. Draw the desired paint design for the vehicle on a piece of paper. Create the drawing to look like a coloring book outline drawing. The open spaces allow for application of different color schemes.

2. Scan the drawing, printing several copies of it.

3. Choose a combination of colors for the first color scheme. Keep in mind the colors that complement one another. The main complements are red and green, blue and orange, yellow and purple. Consider combinations of colors sitting next to one another on a color wheel (analogous colors). Possible combinations are red, orange and yellow; blue, green and yellow; and red, purple and blue. Consider tints and shades (monochromatic color scheme) as a possibility. For example, light blue, blue and dark blue.

4. Select a grouping of colors from the colored pencils. For example, select a warm color scheme of red, orange and yellow. Color a drawing with the colors. Write the name of the colors on the back of the sheet. Repeat the process with several other groups.

5. Select a color scheme from the collection of drawings.
