Get The Guy To Locate A Job

The grieving period after losing your job is about two weeks, says relationship expert Ruth Purple on her website. During this time, your husband or boyfriend may not want to look for work. Instead, he is trying to deal with the frustration of not working and having lost his livelihood. After this period, be as supportive as possible to help him find work.

Instructions

1. Conduct mock interviews with your man to help him practice for interviews. Read through his resume for typos. Email him job opportunities he would like. Be an active support to him as he tries to find a job.

2. Encourage him to maintain a regular schedule. Sitting around the house and not getting dressed will not help his self-esteem. Low self-esteem can mean either not wanting to look for a job or doing poorly in job interviews.

3. Speak positively to him about his job search. Let him move at his own pace as he takes steps toward finding a job. Even if he is not moving as quickly as you would like, nagging him about the issue is not going to make him move faster -- it may make him move more slowly or not at all.

4. Help him set up his own business if he is tired of the rat race. Go over his business plan with him. Refer him to networking groups in your city. Offer to design his business cards if you are a graphic artist. Show him in practical ways that you are behind his venture.

5. Thank him for helping out around the house when he is at home. Even if he just put his socks in the dirty clothes basket, it is a positive step if he never did it before while he had a job. He is staying active and contributing to the household during his job search.

6. Talk to your friends and acquaintances about open positions for which your husband or boyfriend may be qualified. If he has a house painting business, let everyone you are acquainted with know about it. Encourage them to give you or him a call when spring rolls around and they need their decks stained or their living room painted. Be his word-of-mouth advertiser.

7. Stay positive. Waiting for him to find a job is frustrating, but bite your tongue whenever you want to say negative things to him. Do not call employers for him to get him an interview, and avoid filling out his applications or writing his interview thank you letters for him.
