Remove Fresh paint With Sodium Bicarbonate

Soak metal hardware in a mixture of boiling water and baking soda to remove paint.

For non-toxic paint removal, try using a solution composed of baking soda and boiling water. Although consistently effective when used with metal hardware such as hinges and doorknobs, it doesn't remove paint on non-metal surfaces like the walls in your home. But it will refresh the look of your wall paint and remove the paint on those hinges you covered by mistake, without costing a bundle or filling your house with the unpleasant fumes created by chemical based paint removal products.

Instructions

1. Fill a large pot with 1 quart water. Be sure to use an old pot you no longer want to use for cooking.

2. Place the pot on the stove. Add the 1/4 cup baking soda and allow it to fall to the bottom of the pot. Do not stir the baking soda into the water.

3. Turn the stove on and bring the water to a simmer, or low boil. While waiting for the mixture to simmer, set up an area in your kitchen where you can dry your metal hardware pieces by laying down dry cloth.

4. Place the pieces of hardware into the simmering water using tongs. Do not let any of the hardware pieces touch each other or the sides of the pot.

5. Remove each piece of hardware from the water using the tongs, once the paint has fallen off. This should take approximately 15 minutes. Use an old toothbrush or cloth to scrub off any minor paint remaining on the piece.

With the right primer, however, paneling can simply be painted over without the mudding and sanding.

Instructions

1. Clean the paneling with a rag and all-purpose household cleaner. It is important to have a clean surface before you begin painting the paneling.

2. Apply a small amount of putty to all nail holes and scrape the excess off, leaving only the filled hole.

3. Sand the paneling with 100-grit sand paper. This type of sandpaper will make the surface a bit rough so that the primer and paint will better adhere to the glossy paneling.

4. Apply one coat of latex or oil-based primer using a brush or paint roller. Match the primer to the paint color as much as you can. Doing so will require fewer coats of paint.

5. Allow the primer to dry overnight before painting.

6. Paint the paneling with two to three coats of latex or oil-based paint.

How Come Indoor Latex Fresh paint Bubble

Latex paint can bubble if it is not applied correctly.

You just finished painting your wall and thought the job was done, only to discover tiny bubbles marring the surface of your wall. This is a common problem and there are a few different reasons for it to occur. Prevent having to re-do your walls by following a few steps before you begin painting.

Wet Surfaces

If the surface beneath the latex paint is wet, even only slightly, this will disturb the adhesion process of the paint, which will cause small bubbles to form where the paint cannot adhere. If you wash a wall before you paint it, you must allow the surface more than enough time to dry thoroughly. Even if it appears dry, touch the surface. If it feels damp, keep waiting. You can speed up the drying process by aiming fans at the wall.

Mixing Paint Types

Mixing paint types as well as the kind of finish of the paint also will cause small bubbles to appear. For example, if you previously used an oil-based paint on the wall, and now are trying to use a water-based paint without primer in between, it will not adhere properly. Likewise, if you used a semi-gloss paint before, and you are using a semi-gloss paint again without preparing the surface, the paint simply cannot stick to the wall.

High Humidity Levels

High humidity levels within your home also can affect how well paint adheres to the wall. Never paint on a rainy day, or when there is excess moisture in the air. A few days before you plan to paint a room, install a portable dehumidifier and let it take the moisture out of the air. Place a hygrometer in the room. If the levels are above 40 to 50%, do not paint on that day.

Application Techniques

How well you apply the paint is another reason that bubbles can occur in the surface. Rolling on paint too quickly or going in opposite directions with a roller will cause bubbling. Always work slowly and skim the roller over the wall. Properly loading the roller also will help prevent bubbles. Put latex paint in a bucket and use a paint screen to help you squeeze excess paint off of the roller before using it on the wall.

Finish Hardie Board

Hardie Board is a specific brand of fiber cement siding manufactured by James Hardie Inc. A very durable product that is impervious to rot and infestation, this siding is engineered to hold painted finishes quite well. Unfortunately, if you apply a plain latex paint to Hardie Board, fading and/or cracking may ultimately occur. For lasting results, choose any well-known brand of paint that is recommended for its elasticity and resistance to the effects of ultraviolet light.

Instructions

1. Wash the Hardie Board, using a pressure washer.

Leave no dirt on the fiber cement siding, or long-term adhesion will prove impossible. Let the Hardie Board dry for three hours.

2. Position canvas drop cloths beneath the Hardie Board.

Don't use cheap plastic drop cloths which tend to blow away in the wind.

3. Shield surfaces adjacent to the siding by covering them with professional painter's masking tape.

4. Pour two gallons of exterior acrylic paint into a 5-gallon bucket.

Apply paint to the Hardie Board, using a roller. Roll vertically, moving left to right. Access higher portions of the Hardie Board by affixing a telescoping extension pole to the roller frame.

5. Touch-up the Hardie Board, using a 3- to 4-inch nylon paint brush.

Brush in a consistent direction -- either horizontally or vertically. Don't alternate, or brush marks may show up in the finish coat.

6. Let the newly painted surface dry for two hours.

Add a second coat of exterior acrylic paint. Let the fiber cement siding dry for two hours.

Transform your old metal outdoor furniture with a fresh coat of paint. Painting metal outdoor furniture is simply a process of proper cleaning techniques, followed by an application of primer and then finishing with one or two coats of paint and polyurethane. Whether you spray, roll or brush on your color, painting your outdoor furniture will brighten up your patio.

Cleaning

Removing any rust, peeling paint or debris from your metal outdoor furniture prior to painting is the key to a smooth and durable finish. The best way to remove rust from metal is to go over the affected areas with a wire brush. This technique is a simple, but important, part of painting your metal furniture. If you leave rust on the surface, it will show through the primer and the paint, creating rough spots on the surface of the furniture. After removing all of the rust and debris, spray the furniture with water to remove the loose particles. Let the metal dry completely, and then wipe the furniture with a vinegar dampened cloth to remove grease and grime. Primer will not adhere to a wet surface, so make sure to let the furniture dry completely before you prime.

Priming

Prime the surface of your outdoor furniture with a primer specifically formulated for exterior metal applications. If your furniture has intricate designs, you may prefer a spray on primer as the application is easier than with a brush on product. You can find primers and paints for metal at your local home store. If you're spraying, apply a smooth coat with a side-to-side motion, beginning at the top and working your way down the furniture. Be careful to keep the spray can moving; leaving it focused on one spot too long will result in a paint drip or run. If you're using a paint brush to apply your primer, the best technique is to dip the brush into the primer, remove most of the paint by scraping the bristles on the side of the can and then brush on the primer with smooth even strokes. Removing most of the primer before applying it to the furniture will help prevent paint runs. You should let the primer dry completely according to the manufacturer's directions.

Painting

Painting your metal furniture is very similar to priming it, but the paint will go on more smoothly and easily than the primer. Make sure to use a paint formulated for outdoor metal applications. Select your paint applicator based on the design of your outdoor furniture. Again, spray painting is the way to go if your furniture has intricate curves, but you could also apply the paint with a small roller on a flat surface or a paint brush on curved legs or chair backs. For a mesh metal table top, rolling the paint is the simplest and fastest technique to use. Roll underneath the table first, flip it and wipe the top surface with a damp cloth to remove any of the paint that came through the mesh. Let the surface dry before rolling the paint onto the table top. After the paint dries, apply another coat if needed. Once you're finished painting your metal furniture, let it dry completely and apply an exterior grade polyurethane topcoat to protect the paint from moisture and other outdoor elements. You can spray on the polyurethane for a quick and easy finish.

A mural adds depth, creativity and inspiration to a blank wall. A mural is any artwork painted directly onto a wall, ceiling or other large, hard surface. Stucco walls make an interesting mural surface choice because of the usually unfinished texture of the wall. Incorporating the roughness into your mural, such as in the surf in a beach scene, will draw intrigued looks from passers-by or guests in your home. Whether you choose to paint a rural landscape, a city scene, a detailed portrait or a fantasy world, knowing prepare the stucco wall and preserve your mural is paramount.

Instructions

1. Clean the stucco surface with a power washer to remove all dust, dirt and oil. Fit a wide spray tip on the power washing hose. Use minimal pressure, about 1,200 to 1,500 psi, because stucco is considered a soft coating. Spray the wall until you do not see any dirt.

2. Remove loose paint from previously painted stucco. Use a putty knife and wire brush. Lift the loose paint with the knife. Brush away loose particles. Let the surface dry completely.

3. Paint on an acrylic masonry primer. Apply two coats to ensure a smooth surface for your mural.

4. Choose a paint type. For the safest paint, select a masonry type, such as latex paint, that advertises its "breathing" qualities. Or, if you prefer, use oil or water-based types. Choose types of paint that allow internal moisture to escape but that will not let rain and humidity affect your mural. Masonry paints, such as latex paints, tend to limit the amount of dirt and mildew growth on the walls.

5. Select your brushes. Depending on the type of mural you want to paint--- extremely detailed or light and unstructured --- choose brushes that give you flexibility and a variety of brush-stroke styles. For large swaths of image, such as sky, use a lamb's-wool roller. Use a 1- or 1 1/4-inch roller thickness for smoother stucco textures and 1 1/2 inch for rougher, unfinished textures. Reach higher areas of the mural by extending the roller brush pole.

6. Apply the paint. For the first coat of your mural, roll on a continuous film of paint. Avoid leaving any small holes or bubbles in the paint. As you progress with the mural, use smaller brush strokes and get into detail.

Whether you are renovating a home the previous owners painted or updating a room yourself, painting walls a bright color can sometimes result in a shade that is brighter or bolder than anticipated. Aside from re-priming and re-painting the entire space, there are techniques to use to tone down the color. Applying glaze with a faux finish tool is one way to neutralize a bright color, bringing it down to a level you are comfortable with.

Instructions

1. Prepare the area for painting by moving or covering furniture, covering flooring with plastic or cloth, and cleaning the walls by wiping with them a damp cloth.

2. Mix glaze and paint by adding one part glaze to three parts paint to a clean painting tray or bucket. Use the original paint color, or as close as you can get to it if you did not apply the initial coat. Glaze comes in multiple color options as well. You can choose white, bronze, brown, or a shade of the original color, depending on your preference.

3. Prepare a practice board by cutting a piece of cardboard and painting it the original color. Then, apply the glaze/paint mixture to see the results. Adjust accordingly. You may need to add more paint if the glaze appears chalky, or add more glaze if it isn't toning down the color enough.

4. Tape ceilings, trim, and baseboards with painter's tape.

5. Apply paint/glaze mixture to wall. Use a brush to paint edges, then fill in with a paint roller. If you choose to use a faux finish tool, apply glaze/paint mixture with a brush in two to three foot sections, then use the tool to manipulate paint with a twisting motion with your wrist.

Remove Paintball Fresh paint From Stucco

If you have teenagers in your neighborhood, you might find yourself having to clean paintball stains from your house. This can be especially difficult if you have a house covered in stucco, which has a texture that makes it difficult to wipe or brush clean. You'll have to use a pressure washer with water to remove the paintball paint. If you don't own a pressure washer, you can rent one from a hardware or home improvement store.

Instructions

1. Open the pressure washer, fill the tank with water, and close the lid.

2. Turn on the pressure washer, and adjust it to the lowest pressure possible.

3. Point the water stream at the paintball paint stain. This will gradually weaken the paint's hold on the stucco and will eventually remove it. If it does not, carefully turn up the pressure. Do not raise the pressure above 1500 psi (pounds per square inch), because this might crack the stucco.

4. Continue spraying the paintball paint until you have removed all the stain.

5. Let the stucco air-dry.

Fresh paint An Artificial Stucco Exterior

Stucco is commonly used on exterior walls.

Synthetic stucco is often used as a special siding for buildings to help protect the surface, especially in high-heat areas of the country. This material is made of multiple layers of a fiberglass mesh, with another layer of foam insulating board. The final outer layer is the synthetic stucco. Usually, the final layer comes in a variety of colors, but over time, as with anything in direct sunlight, stucco has a tendency to fade. Repainting the stucco restores its original color.

Instructions

1. Inspect the surface and look for any hairline or larger cracks that may have occurred over time. Inspect the area of the surface mainly around windows, doors and other locations where you have painted before. Use the caulking gun and caulk to seal any cracks.

2. Clean the surface you want to paint with the power washer. Use a large, open-faced water tip to clean the surface. A smaller tip can damage the stucco. Stucco is much softer than other building materials and can crack easily. Once you've washed the area, allow the surface to dry between 48 to 72 hours before applying paint.

3. Inspect the surface again for any areas that may need to be repaired. Use the stucco patching material and fill in the areas. Smooth the mixture into the cracks and massage evenly until the surface is sealed. Let the patches dry for at least eight to 10 hours.

4. Apply a single coat of the primer to the stucco using a sponge foam paint brush. You can use a hand roller to make sure the primer covers the area entirely. Using a sprayer may not apply the primer completely, especially if the wind is blowing.

Restoring an old house to its historic roots can be a time-consuming and labor-intensive project. It can also be a satisfying hobby. Part of keeping the home true to its roots is choosing the historic color palette for the period in which the home was built. Contemporary homeowners who are accustomed to the muted shades that are popular in the 21st century may be surprised with the vibrant color schemes favored by past generations.

Colonial Period

Colonial-style homes were prevalent in the New England region, down the East Coast, and along portions of the Gulf Coast. These homes, which were built from the mid-1600s through the end of the Revolutionary War, were patterned after homes that were popular in England and other European countries. These one- or two-story homes feature symmetrical windows in front, and were two rooms deep. They typically reflected a romantic or neoclassical style. The colonists favored organic pigments to color their oil-based exterior paints. Popular colors of the day included shades of indigo, stone red, gray, ocher, moss green, and burnt umber.

Greek Revival

Greek Revival architecture was popular from 1800 to the mid-1800s, and was the dominant style in the United States from 1820 to 1850, according to Northern Arizona University. Greek Revival architecture is sometimes referred to as the National Style due to the numerous public buildings such as courthouses and post offices erected using this form. Homes built in the Greek Revival style featured porches with columns, and a gabled front entrance. Greek Revival homes were typically painted white, and occasionally made use of accent colors including black, gold or dark green.

Victorian

Gothic Revival homes, more commonly referred to as Victorian homes in honor of the reign of Queen Victoria of Great Britain, were distinguished by lavish wooden lacework, steep pitched roofs, decorative ornamentation, conical turrets, and walls painted in a variety of colors, ranging from muted green to brilliant red. Earth tones were accented with orange, red, and green, while soft mauve might be decorated with slate blue and pale green. Victorian homes originally made use of brilliant and vibrant colors, although individuals who restore these old homes frequently choose to use muted variations of original colors to match contemporary tastes.

Clean Egg Off Vinyl Siding

Vinyl siding is a unique combination of hardy and easily damaged.

Vinyl siding has a lot of advantages, including that is it durable, does not flake and resists rot. However, if your vinyl siding has been playfully pranked by local kids with eggs, then you may have a serious problem on your hands. If you fail to clean your vinyl siding correctly, you could give your home a leak or even punch a hole in your siding. Fail to clean adequately, however, and your vinyl siding will be decorated with a permanent omelet. Fortunately, vinyl siding is relatively easy to clean using supplies that you probably already have.

Instructions

1. Rinse down the siding. Use the garden hose, but be careful to set it on medium pressure, not hard pressure or you could puncture the siding with a powerful stream of water. Aim the water so that it hits the siding and slides down rather than allowing it to force between the siding slats, where it can create a damp mess in your sheet rock. Drench the area with the egg.

2. Mix up a solution of liquid dish soap and water. Fill the pump reservoir 2/3 full of warm water, and add 10 drops of dish soap. Swirl to mix, and create suds if you like.

3. Soak the area with the egg with the soapy water. Allow it to sit on the house for about 5 minutes, then reapply the mixture before moving on.

4. Scrub the egg yolk with the brush on a pole. If you can reach the damaged spot without a pole, then just hold the brush in your hands. Use firm pressure, but do not use all the force you have or you may damage the siding.

5. Repeat the water-and-soap cycle until you have softened the egg and removed the residue. This may take 5 or 6 repetitions. If you get the area with egg too clean, you may have to wash the entire house to keep the color of the siding uniform.

6. Rinse the house down one final time. As before, use moderate pressure from the hose, and be careful not to squirt the water up at the house, but make sure that it hits the flat areas of the siding.

5. Complete the finishing touches on your design before or during the remodeling project. You'll paint the walls and decorate the room after you finish the remodeling, but use this time to decide on color themes. Remember that lighter colors in a basement help to make windowless rooms seem brighter, while dark colors make a room dimmer. Instructions

1. Combine 1/2 cup bleach with 1 gallon water in a bucket. Carefully carry the bucket and mop up your ladder to your roof. Mop down your roof carefully, killing any mold or fungi that might be growing, and wiping off dirt and debris. You'll have to move your ladder to reach all areas of the house. Hose the roof with clean water when done and let it air-dry.

2. Pour the white latex paint into your paint roller pan and apply it to the shingles on your roof, moving the paint roller in one direction. Continue in this manner until you've covered the entire surface of the roof. Allow it a full 24 hours to dry.

3. Rinse off your paint roller and pan. Pour the crackling glaze into the pan and apply it to the shingles. Apply it in a single direction, making smooth, even strokes. Allow it one hour to dry.

4. Rinse off your paint roller and paint roller pan. Pour your gray latex paint into your paint roller pan. Dip your paint roller in this second color and apply it to the roof, making strokes in the direction 90 degrees opposite the direction that the crackle glaze was applied. This top coat of paint will now crackle.

5. Rinse out your paint roller pan and paint roller, and apply a clear weatherproof top coat to the roof to protect all your hard work.

Removing Paint From Wood Molding

What Type of Paint

Knowing what you are removing helps to decide what type of remover to use and do it. There are latex and oil-based paints, lacquers and old lead paint, just to name a few. If you are dealing with any paint made before 1978 it could contain lead. Lead can cause serious health problems and the removal of lead paint should be done with care. A respirator should be worn at all times and the removal should never be done by sanding. If you have to remove the paint indoors, cover all furniture and floors with plastic sheeting and keep the area well ventilated. If you are unsure if the paint contains lead, you can get a lead testing kit at most hardware and home improvement stores. If you don't test, but are still unsure, take all the necessary precautions as if it were lead paint.

Stripping Products

You can spend hours in the paint removal aisles deciding what type of product to use. If you know what type of paint it is you are trying to remove, then you will have less trouble deciding which stripper to use, as most of them are very specific to certain types of finishes.

Most paint strippers are very toxic and the fumes alone can make you wish you never started the project. There are a couple of products that are safer to use and don't have that horrible smell. PeelAway paint strippers have products for every kind of paint and finish. Some of its products are great for removing lead paint and have very little irritants in them. Wearing gloves, protective eyewear and a respirator is still the best way to assure that you aren't harmed by the stripper or the lead paint. Another "green" paint remover is Krud Kutter. They make cleaning products, adhesive removers and paint removers that are not harmful to the environment. These are the best products to start with if you are worried about working with chemicals. You will also need various rags, scrapers and denatured alcohol works wonders for getting rid of residue, if you can handle the smell.

Stripping the Wood

Most of the time when you are stripping molding, it is left in place. For this reason, you would want to use a gel or cream type stripper. Liquids will make a mess and be very hard to work with. All strippers are different, so care must be taken to read the manufacturer's directions on use it and how long to leave it on before you start to scrape off the paint.

If you have a nice flat or even a slightly curved molding, a regular scraper will be fine. But if you're dealing with a very decorative piece, it just became a little more difficult. PeelAway 7 paint stripper is a cream applied with a plastic utensil that looks like a spatula. Then a paper covering goes over the cream and sits overnight. The next day you just peel off the paper and most of the paint comes with it. This works well with multiple layers of paint, too.

Sometimes it is necessary to use picks to get into the deep detailing of the molding. After the paint is removed with any paint stripper, you can get the residue off with denatured alcohol. When the piece is dry, you can use a small strip of sandpaper to carefully remove any paint that hasn't come off. If you are sure the paint is not a lead paint, you can use a sander on any molding to remove paint. Just keep your area contained so the dust does not travel all through your home and wear a respirator. You don't want to breathe it even if it isn't filled with lead. What to Use as a Natural Paint Color

Whether you are redecorating your home or preparing it for sale, applying a new coat of a natural colored paint can pump new life to the space. Walls painted with natural shades and earth tones complement your personal design style and allow you to place more emphasis on furnishings, collectibles and artwork. Before painting, "test drive" a variety of natural paint colors by painting large swatches of paint throughout the room. Don't forget to prime the walls with a natural colored primer before you apply new paint, to block the old color from mixing with the new color.

Main Rooms

Showcase main rooms with an earth tone or a soft color, says Charlottesville, Virginia, interior designer Kim Benson. Benson explains that family and living room areas are places where families display a combination of artwork, photographs and collectibles. Adding a natural paint color to the walls complements the décor without detracting from it. "I typically suggest that my clients use beige or brown tones complemented with solid, clean white trim and baseboards."

She adds that some clients would rather express their design taste with paint color versus artwork. "When I have a client who wants something a little bolder, I suggest an accent wall or nook. I select a color that is several shades darker, within the same color family, for the accent wall. An accent wall adds dimension and interest in a sparsely decorated room."

Kitchen

While earth shades such as beige work well in kitchens, bright neutral colors add warmth to one of the busiest rooms in the home. Select a natural shade that complements your appliances, countertops and cabinets.

Warm lemon and yellow shades are popular kitchen wall colors and can be subdued to have a more natural appeal. Benson says that she typically suggests a lighter version of any neutral color for kitchens. "I like soothing lemon for kitchens, however don't overpower your kitchen with strong colors, even if they are natural or neutral. Colors that are too strong can create a claustrophobic feeling instead of being warm and inviting."

Bedrooms

The bedroom is one of the most important areas to infuse soft, natural color into the ambiance. Falling asleep while surrounded by a loud primary color can create a noisy, disruptive effect instead of a soothing, peaceful feeling.

Muted grays and blues can help you nod off to sleep. "Adult bedrooms look spectacular painted with a natural evergreen or sand color," Benson says. "For a more feminine touch, I've used darker shades of ivory with chrome furniture and accessories throughout the room."

Benson adds that many parents like to paint their children's rooms with primary or bold colors. "It's fun to have a bright pink room when you are a little girl, however you can always compromise by using an ivory or light sand color and selecting a bright pink comforter and throw pillows. Use a natural paint color such as beige, blue and lemon for your children's walls and let them select how they want to accessorize it."

Building a pool house can be a simple and inexpensive project using pole construction. If you plan to use your pool house for storage and entertaining, you need a design that will meet all of your needs. A three sided structure, open at the front, containing a storage area on one side and a restroom on the other is a good start. Instructions

1. Lay out the design of your pool house using builder's string and stakes. Allow for plumbing and electricity as needed. Mark the location of your posts and bathroom essentials with different colors of spray paint.

2. Dig the holes for you posts as outlined in your local building codes. Place the posts and secure them temporarily with 2 by 4s, making sure they are level. Pour the concrete and let it dry.

3. Frame the outside of your pool house using treated wood beams. Attach the beams to the posts using metal brackets, then add 2 by 4s to fill in the frame and to build the interior walls. Make sure all of the beams and posts are plumb before proceeding with your construction.

4. Run the electrical wires and water lines in accordance with your local building codes. If you're not well versed in plumbing and electrical building practices, you may want to hire a professional.

5. Build your floor with your desired material. If your finished material is tile or slate, you can build a plywood floor. Add the trusses for the roof.

6. Finish the interior walls with sheet rock, add the tin tiles to the roof and add the siding or stone to the exterior walls.

7. Add the plumbing fixtures and the remaining electrical components. You can now add your finished flooring material.

8. Paint your interior walls or tile them throughout for better durability. Add your lighting and hang your interior doors. Decorate your pool house with weather friendly furniture and you will enjoy the space for years.

Tractor painting is a job that few people can do. It requires a lot of tools to do right. If you decide to start painting tractors as a business, it can be hard to know what price to charge. One way to determine the correct price is to get estimates from other companies in the area orr follow an economic breakdown of all supplies and costs for the project and create an estimation from that.

Primer

One of the largest costs of any tractor paint job is the paint itself and this should be factored into any cost estimate. Typical tractor primer runs anywhere from $40 to $60 per gallon. Each gallon can cover about 80 feet of metal. Most tractors have at least 20 feet of paintable space so one gallon should be sufficient. Specialty primers cost even more. Average cost for tractor primer is around $30 to $40 per job.

Paint

Tractor paint tends to be expensive because most tractor models have to be repainted in their original brands and colors to retain their value. Tractor paints will cost anywhere between $40 and $60 per gallon, and this is for non-name brand paint. Name brand paints can cost a lot more. In addition to the paint you will also need to purchase a compatible paint thinner to make the paint suitable for spraying. Paint thinner can cost anywhere from $20 to $40 per gallon. Some tractor painters also use a paint hardener which is around $40 per pint. One gallon of paint should cover 44 feet of metal.

Labor

Labor should not be overlooked. The average hourly wage for a professional auto body painter is anywhere from $10 to $30 per hour. Your hourly price should fall somewhere between that, depending on your skill. If you paint jobs do not look as good as factory new tractors then you should charge on the lower side for labor.

Tools

In addition to the cost of paint and labor, there are also initial costs covered in the estimate price. Large pieces of equipment are used in painting tractors, such as diamond grit sanders and buffers, automotive sandpaper, paint sprayer, blocking tape, metal polish and many other tools. The way to determine how much cost to add to each job to cover this expense is to divide the cost of the equipment by how many estimated jobs it can handle before needing replacement. Apply Black Chrome

Chrome is commonly used on cars and motorcycles.

Black chrome can be achieved through plating or painting. When achieved through painting, it's actually the base coat that determines the color of the chrome. The ubiquitous silver-colored chrome, for example, is achieved with a base of silver or white paint and applying chrome paint over the base. Black chrome is obtained with a black base coat.

Instructions

1. Apply a black basecoat to a prepped and primed surface. Since you will need to work in a garage or other indoor environment to insure a smooth surface free from dust, pollen, and other "trash" in the air, be sure to wear a respirator.

2. Apply clearcoat and allow it to cure for at least 24 hours. Don't forget the respirator.

3. Spray on a light coat of the chrome paint, "dusting" the object rather than flooding it with paint. Keep the spray can or spray gun 10 to 12 inches away from the object you're painting. Your goal is a light, even deposit of paint. Wait 2 or 3 minutes and spray on another coat. Continue in the same manner until you've achieved thorough, even coverage. Allow the paint to dry for at least an hour.

4. Remove all the paint dust from the object, using a tack cloth. Apply one to two coats of clearcoat to protect your new black chrome finish.

Fresh paint A Tie Dye Room

A signature style of the 1960s, tie-dye designs infuse T-shirts, artwork and other items with a colorful retro appeal. It is possible to translate that same artistic feeling into your home decor. By using a three-color painting method and some old rags, you will be able to completely cover your walls with tie-dye flair.

Instructions

1. Paint your room with the primary color within your tie-dye pattern. For example, if your tie-dye includes white, green and blue, it is best to paint the room white and do the faux tie-dye in green and blue. Allow 24 hours for the room to completely dry.

2. Twist your cloths or rags lengthwise. Secure the twisted fabric with rubber bands at each end. Make sure the bands are securely fastened to keep the rolls from opening once inserted into the paint. It is best to use two different cloth lengths to avoid full coverage over each layer. For example, you can use an 8-inch-long cloth for your second color and a 4-inch-long cloth for your third color.

3. Mix one of your secondary paints, and pour into paint tray. Have sufficient drop cloths in case of a spill during paint application.

4. Dip a rolled cloth into the paint tray. Retwist the cloth, and allow the excess paint to drip into the tray before applying directly to the walls.

5. Roll your twisted fabric lightly in an upwards and sideways motion. The twists in your fabric will create a tie-dye effect. It is important to not saturate the wall so that the base color shows through. Cover your whole room with the secondary color. You can opt to cover the wall one section at a time, such as covering a 4-by-4-foot area. However, you run the risk of having uneven dry lines throughout the wall. Allow this layer to dry approximately 24 hours prior to adding the last paint layer.

6. Mix your third color, and pour into a paint tray. Roll a new piece of twisted fabric into the third color. Examine your walls as you work, and remove excess paint with your sponge.

7. Pour your base color paint into a separate paint tray and dip an unused sponge into it. Allow the excess paint to drip into the tray. You do not have to wait until the third layer is completely dry. Lightly sponge the color onto the walls in a random pattern to highlight the base color throughout the design. You can opt to cut out your sponge in a particular shape such as a flower or ring, and apply it as a motif in a random pattern throughout the room to highlight the base color. Allow your room to dry for approximately 24 hours.

Steps To Painting A Wall

Updating the color of the walls will transform the look and feel of a room. Whether you are painting every room in your house or just one accent wall to highlight a prized piece of art or an antique furniture piece, there are simple steps to follow to paint like a pro.

Choosing the Color and Finish

Before you jump right in and paint your favorite shade onto your walls, consider the desired mood and function of the room you are painting. Do you want your bedroom to be calm and serene or your kitchen to appear bright and airy? Choose colors that reflect those feelings.

You also need to determine the most appropriate type of paint finish for the project. If you are working in a kitchen or bathroom, paints with a semi-gloss finish work well. Walls painted with semi-gloss finishes reflect more light and stand up better to repeated cleanings and water. For other frequently used interior rooms, consider eggshell or satin finishes. You can see samples of the different paint and finish types at a local home improvement store like Ace Hardware, Home Depot or Lowe's.

Prepping the Room

Taking time to properly prep the room and walls can make all the difference in the final look of the paint job. Begin by removing all artwork, shelves, electrical outlet covers or anything else that is on the wall. Move all furniture to the center of the room and cover it with a drop cloth.

Once the walls and room are clear, mix warm water with a few drops of mild detergent and wipe down the walls and trim with a soft sponge or cloth. Rinse them with clean water when you're finished, and while the walls are drying, inspect them for any holes, scratches or cracks you will need to repair with a spackling compound. Fill these blemishes in with spackle as necessary, and smooth the corrected areas with sand paper. Some professionals consider it a best practice to sand the entire wall before proceeding, as this will smooth out any more mild imperfections and will help the paint grip the wall. If you do this, wipe down the walls with a damp cloth to remove any additional dust created by sanding. The last stop of prep work is to tape off the trim and corners with painter's tape.

Priming and Painting

Now that the prep work is complete, it's time for primer. Don't make the mistake of skipping this important step in the process. Primers give your finished product a higher quality look and can reduce the number of paint coats you will need. Primer is especially helpful when going from a darker wall color to a lighter color.

When the primer is dry, it's finally time to get the color on the walls. Begin by using a paint brush to paint a small border of one-to-two inches of the wall color around the trim, windows, doors and where the wall meets the ceiling and floor. Do this in small sections so that the paint will still be wet when you roll in the rest of the selected area.

Once you have created your border for one section, fill in the remainder of the area using a paint roller. Dip, but don't saturate, the roller in the paint, and use the roller to create a large "M" or "W" shape on the wall that is three-to-four feet in size. Next, use vertical strokes of the roller to fill in the area and distribute the paint. Be sure to overlap the edge of the border you painted with the brush for a smooth, continuous look. Use this method to complete the wall.

Wait until your first coat is completely dry before applying additional coats, if needed.
